Images from the exhibition The 12 Canoes Project

Photographer C J Taylor visited the Arafura Swamp in North-Eastern Arnhem land at the invitation of the Yolngu peoples. In Taylor's words: “what I hope these pictures will do is leave you with a sense of place. A sense of the true beauty of the people and their lands.” Taylor was part of a team who worked with the Ramingining community to create the 12 Canoes web site with Rolf de Heer and Molly Reynolds.

CJ Taylor is a Sydney-born, Adelaide embedded visual artist concerned with notions of Australian identity, place, fictitious realities and the relative absurdity and beauty of existence in roughly equal parts, and generally at the same time.
